My Ultimate Christmas Playlist | Blogmas #3

Hello guys! I'm just having one of those days today! I didn't manage to get to sleep until 8am, omg it was so stressful because after 3-4am I got this random burst of energy and motivation to do some blogging work, and then I just wasn't tired for hours and hours. Why does my body do this to me!? I slept in for ages today, waking up a little too late to take any decent photography due to the dullness outside. My day has been hectic as is usual for a Sunday in my life, family here for Sunday dinner, loud children, too many people. Little introverted me prefers to hide away for most of the afternoon, haha! I did have fun having a sing along with my nieces though, and all sitting together playing Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Anyhow, earlier today I set to making a Christmas playlist. I like to make a new one every year and now that I use Spotify, it makes it so much easier and it means that I can actually share my playlist with you guys too! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to my favourite festive hits and putting my playlist on for my mom and sister to listen to as we put up our Christmas tree this evening. I hope you enjoy reading!

If you checked out my entry for Blogmas Day 2 yesterday, I blogged all about how I get prepared for Christmas, how I get myself in the mood for all of the festivities. One of those things was of course turning on those favourite Christmas hits! Listening to these songs today really did make me feel more Christmassy, and it's got me all excited for putting up decorations in my bedroom. I finally got myself a 4ft tree, because now that I have my own bedroom which is quite empty because I'm in the process of decorating, I have the room to have a bigger tree than my usual mini desktop one. Yay!

So, what is your favourite Christmas song? Is there a reason why you love it so much?

My personal favourite of all time is The Fairytale of New York by The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl. I have always loved the instrumentals and the style of it, with The Pogues being an Celtic punk band. It reminds me of the Irish music that I grew up listening to because of my dad. It's nostalgic and Celtic music makes me want to get up and dance! I really liked the video when I was young and it made me envision a Christmas in New York City with bright lights and seasonal decorations everywhere, a gigantic Christmas tree up in Times Square! It seems so very magical and it's on my travel wishlist to go there some day during the festive season to experience it for myself :) As well as those reasons, I also like how even though it's clearly a Christmas song, it has a different feel to it and it has an air of realism to it, if you get what I mean, because it's about a volatile relationship and how Christmas isn't perfect for everyone, like we see in the movies.

After 'The Fairytale of New York', I absolutely adore Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) by The Darkness, Rockin' Robin by Michael Jackson/Jackson 5, and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love. The song by the Darkness is just awesome! When it first came out, I thought it was fabulous that there was an alternative-esque Christmas song! I love all of the high-notes and guitar instrumentals in the song. 'Rockin' Robin' is such a fun, happy song; I sing along to it very loudly :D I feel sorry for my family, ha! And Darlene Love's song is an oldie, released in 1963 and for me, it's just one of those classic Christmas songs that remind me of my childhood. When I was around 6 or 7 years old, I watched Gremlins for the first time, and 'Baby Please Come Home' is playing as the movie starts, so hearing it just takes me back to my childhood and makes me think about my most memorable Christmases.

Whilst putting together my playlist, I discovered some new songs with the help of some of the other playlists on Spotify, including songs from Sia's new album, Everyday is Christmas. I love Sia's music and my favourite song from this album is Underneath The Mistletoe, but I'll probably add more as I listen through them and decide which are the best in my opinion.

Well it's about time that I showed you all my ultimate Christmas playlist! Please feel free to follow it and have just as much fun as I do dancing around and singing whilst it's on in the background! Also, I'd love for you to let me know what you think is the best song on the list? Or if you really want me to add a Christmassy song that I've missed that you really enjoy :)

I named my playlist 'IT'S CHRISTMAS!!' after well-known Christmas hit by Slade, Merry Christmas Everyone! Everytime I get excited about something festive-related, I always find myself quoting this very line aloud to myself. I'm such a dork, haha! Anyhow, that's it for Blogmas Day 3. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas everyone!

Thankyou for reading!

This post has been all about Christmas songs I love, but it got me thinking about my least favourite festive music. What's your least favourite Christmas?

  1. Haha Iove that you picked the song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - I love to watch non-traditional Christmas films because I'm a bit of a Grinch and Gremlins is one of my fave films to watch while I wrap presents. I don't really like many other Christmas songs, but I do enjoy The Beach Boys Christmas album. :D
