Yankee Candle Mini Haul

Autumn Yankee Candle Collection

Since it's now Autumn, I was in need of some seasonal candles! I ordered a mixture of autumn-themed candles & christmas candles. I love the red and brown colours of the new candles, as they match the autumnal decorations I've placed around my bedroom. It feels so cosy in there now, when I put on my moomin onesie, wrap up in blankets and pop a movie on on my laptop.

So, here are the candles I bought:

It's so difficult to choose a favourite scent  I love sweet scented candles, so the cookie ones are perfect for me, but I also LOVE berry trifle! I thought I'd like the vanilla chai candle, because vanilla is my all time favourite scent, and I usually like all of the yankee candle vanilla combinations, but I'm not sure what I think of this...maybe it will smell nicer when I burn it. After seeing the gingerbread maple candle all over instagram, I thought I'd give it a try too but I really didn't like the scent so I'll give it to someone for Christmas :)

I can't wait to start using them! Thankyou for reading!

What's your favourite autumn yankee candle?
Can you recommend any others I should buy next?

Invisible Illness Awareness | Health

Invisible Illness Awareness

Today is the last day of Invisible Illness Awareness Week (or is it tomorrow?) and I've been planning to write this post for days now, but having a chest infection has meant that I've had to shuffle all my posts around and my organisation has been all over the place. Better late than never, right? :) This post is going to be more personal than anything I've written on my blog so far, because I'm going to tell you all about my own experience with invisible chronic illness. Invisible illness as the name suggests is a term used to categorise medical conditions (both physical and mental health conditions) that are barely visible on the outside, but they cause the person affected a lot of pain, discomfort and have an array of life-changing symptoms. People with invisible illness are often faced with judgement from people who do not understand or narrow-minded people who say things like '...but you don't look sick'.

I'm very thankful for the massive community of supportive and understanding people all over the internet sharing positive, motivational messages and showing their support for people who have invisible illnesses. When I first developed the symptoms of my own health conditions, reading encouraging posts really helped me, and then I also discovered the 'spoonie' community Many of you will have heard of spoonies, but for those who haven't it is term that people living with a chronic illness identify with and it is based on the Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino. Read more about what the Spoon Theory is here. Finding this community on tumblr, and later on instagram, has honestly helped me hold myself together on my worst days & find people who know what it truly feels like to deal with chronic illness.

The adorable illustration above is by the very talented artist, Emm Roy (check out her tumblr). It's important for everyone to remember that you are strong and you should be proud of yourself for everything you've endured and all that you've overcome! Posts like these help me when I'm personally struggling to deal with my invisible illnesses. I have generalised anxiety disorder and depression, as well as irritable bowel syndrome and a yet-to-be-officially-diagnosed chronic pain condition which I believe is fibromyalgia (but it's proving ridiculously difficult to be referred to a specialist for diagnosis! >.< ).

I experienced a period of depression when I was in high school due to being bullied and as a consequence I developed a very low self-esteem. After meeting an amazing group of people outside of school which helped my confidence grow, my depression seemed to go away. It unfortunately retuned in 2010... I went through a breakup, and the heartbreak accompanied with the stress of applying to university, college work and other various personal problems brought my depression back and it's never really gone away since then. I finally started uni in 2012; just after that I developed irritable bowel syndrome (although I've had digestive issues since I was 10 years old) and it really affected my life. I experienced social anxiety, and over time it worsened until I was suffering from anxiety in pretty much all areas of my life. As for my pain condition, I've been having symptoms since my early teens that have gotten worse over the years. At first, I thought I was experiencing the aches and pains that are a symptom of depression, but I now get chronic muscle & join pain, fatigue and lots of other health issues. Do you have any of the health issues that I do, or anything similar? It would be great to chat to some bloggers who are fellow spoonies.

Dealing with invisible illness can be extremely challenging at times. I'm in pain a lot and I get exhausted very quickly. I have to cancel plans all the time and I'm often too ill to go out. My conditions get worse when I'm stressed or randomly 'flare up' for what seems like no reason at all. I'm finding it more and more difficult to do all the things I used to, and I'm hoping blogging will help me focus on the positive things in my life that make me happy!

^ I thought this was a super cute way to finish my post! It's from another awesome artist called Jacqueline (check out her website here).

To anyone who has an invisible illness, whether mental or physical, stay strong!

& to everyone who took the time to write or post something on social media this last week to help spread awareness, thankyou :)

Thankyou for reading!

Would you like me to blog more about life as a spoonie in the future

23rd Birthday Celebrations | Lifestyle

Earlier, you may have read my Part 1 post all about how I celebrated my 23rd birthday. Here's what I did later in the day after opening my presents, taking photographs for today's post and going for a nap since this chest infection I have is making me so exhausted. I received a lovely birthday parcel from one of my friends (containing American style jelly beans, a white rabbit tsum tsum, an adorable kawaii sticker pack & pen from TofuCute and a lovely postcard) so that was a great surprise! An online order I made earlier in the week also arrived so I was greeted with 7 new yankee candles... I'll write about them over the weekend :)

So, in the late afternoon me & my mum had a little BBQ, which is something I've wanted to do on my birthday for a few years now. It was my mum's first time doing her own BBQ and we had fun sitting in the garden with my bunnies, eating yummy food. The weather was great and there were Speckled Wood butterflies flying around so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get some photographs for a photo-a-day challenge I'm taking part in on my instagram (Check out the collage I made here). Two of my brothers came over to see me later in the day so joined in with our BBQ, which was good because there was too much food for me & my mum to manage on our own

^ I'm quite a fussy eater, and I prefer my salad off my burger!

After the BBQ, my dad arrived and we all tucked into my birthday cake, it was a chocolate fudge cake *nom nom nom*! My mum attempted to write '23' on top using the candles, it was cute. For my birthday, my dad paid for the skater dress I wore for my party last week, and bought me an adorable Ty beanie monkey teddy. Here are some photographs of my other presents...

A Song of Ice and Fire

My favourite characters from the Song of Ice and Fire novels/ Game of Thrones TV series are Tyrion & Arya, so I love this little book of Tyrion quotes which my mum thinks is 'inappropriate' and 'rude', even though she enjoys watching the show! Who's your favourite GoT character(s)?

My best friend bought me a very cute notebook that will be my next blog planner when the tokidoki one I'm using now is full, and she also got a lovely thoughtful book for me with motivational quotes and messages to cheer me up when I'm having a bad day. The pages are beautifully coloured, it's really pretty inside. Thanks Jess

The last gift I'll show you is my new hare duvet cover from George at ASDA. It's only £10 and I adore it. It's a pale brown colour so I think it matches really well with my dark brown rabbit blanket and has an autumnal feel to it. It has another pattern on the reverse side with brown dots on. I love the look of my bed right now.

What are you most looking forward to this month?
Other than Halloween! OMG HALLOWEEN! ^.^ too excited.

What I Got For My Birthday | Lifestyle

Raiin Monkey: My Birthday

So yesterday it was my 23rd birthday. I had a lovely day (despite the fact that I'm still suffering with a chest infection that just keeps getting worse!). It was quiet, since I'd already celebrated my birthday with my friends a week ago. I spent the day with my mum & it was nice to be home on my birthday because for the last 3 years I'd have to go back to uni on the last week of September. I received some really nice cards; I especially loved one that I got from my mum. I'm a little obsessed with rabbits (little is most definitely an understatement!), and her card was an adorable 3D pop-up style bunny card. My sister also gave me a pretty rabbit card :)

I loved my presents ♥ I was bought my first ever filofax planner! I've been eyeing them up for months now, following planner-related instagrams and watching youtube videos showing how others have their planners set up inside. One of my favourite channels for planners, stationary and creativity in general is MyGreenCow. As soon as I watched her video featuring the A5 Domino Filofax in turquoise from the spring collection, I just had to get one of my own! It was purchased from Ryman and it's gorgeous...I can't wait to start using it.

My mum also bought me lots of other awesome presents... it's easier to show you than try and explain about all the items. She wrapped one of those lovely storage boxes up and when I opened it, I discovered it was also filled with lots of individually wrapped presents. It was so fun to open them all and was a nice surprise! I'm a big fan of stationary and so I got lots of it!

Since I have more photos, I thought I'd write two separate posts about my birthday!

Happy Birthday to everyone else who celebrates their birthdays in October!

Who else has a filofax or another planner? I'd love to read some blog posts about them :)
