The Christmas Tag 2018

Happy Sunday Everyone! Only two more sleeps until Santa's here! I'm feeling very much in the Christmas spirit now that it's so close to the big day, so I thought I'd share my answers to a festive tag post that my best friend tagged me in at the start of the month :) Head over to LittlePinkDuck to read Jess' post! This Christmas Tag was originally created by Morgan at EnthuiastBlog, so be sure to check out her post too! I hope you all enjoy reading!

The Christmas Tag 2018

What's your favourite Christmas film?

My favourite Christmas movie is The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (2000) starring Jim Carrey. I love the original Dr. Seuss storyline combined with comedy! The soundtrack is fantastic too :) I know they aren't Christmas movies, but I love watching musicals around Christmas Time because that's what I did throughout my childhood. Oliver! (1968), Annie (1982) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999) were always on TV in December. Oh, and there's always an ongoing debate as to whether Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) is a Halloween movie or a Christmas one... but it's one of my favourite movies to watch around Christmas Time, and I watch it all year round too, so I'd say the answer to the question is both! What's your opinion: Halloween or Christmas movie?

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

We had a proper White Christmas with such ridiculous amounts of snow that we had to be sent home from school, after the classroom doors had to literally have the snow dug away by the school's caretaker to be able to open them, when I was 5 years old and in Reception class. I don't remember much about the snow that year, other than watching one of my brothers try to make an igloo in the back garden by freezing water in plastic tub and making actual bricks of ice (he succeed by the way, but struggled to fill in a gap in the roof, haha!). As far as I can remember, we had a white Christmas when I was in my first year of university, I definitely remember all the snow that covered my campus but I cannot 100% recall if it continued to snow heavy for the rest of the month. Basically, I've only had a few white christmas in my life!

Where do you usually spend your Holiday?

I spent it at home with my family, since I still live at home with my mom and sister :) My brothers usually come over for Christmas dinner later in the day.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

My Number 1 favourite Christmas song is Fairytale of New York by Kirsty MacColl & The Pogues. To make up my top 5, in no particular order, I also love Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) by The Darkness, Where are you Christmas? by Faith Hill, Rockin' Robin by The Jackson 5, and Do They Know Its Christmas? by Band Aid 1984. Ooo, and I also really like the Christmas song that plays at the beginning of The Gremlins movie because it's super nostalgic to me, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love! *immediately puts my Christmas Spotify playlist on*

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

We always open our presents on Christmas Day :)

Can you name all of Santa's Reindeer?

Yes, we've had this Christmas banner decoration all my life with all of the reindeers on (although it broke and is now missing two of the herd! T_T), and I have always loved it ever since I was a child. It helped me to remember their names because as soon as my mom first taught me them, I used to point to their reindeers and choose which was which :D There's Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Vixen, Cupid, Donner, Dasher and Blitzen. Then, of course, came along Rudolph with his red nose! Not gonna lie, the Destiny's Child version of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer definitely keeps the names fresh in my mind though!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

Hmm, other than all of the typical Christmas traditions, I quite enjoy consuming ALL OF THE CHRISTMAS SNACKS! I've already ate a lot of chocolates from those big tubs that are released in December, as well as my advent calendar chocolate. Not as much as I usually eat, but still a heck of a lot, oops I'm not even sorry :D I also love those German Lebkuchen biscuits are in the shops at Christmas! Not all of the holiday traditions that I look forward to are about the food... well that's only half true, because my next point was that I love my little tradition of going to the Manchester Christmas Markets every year, but then again, one of the main appeals of that is the chance to get a fresh Dutch Sugar Waffle XD

Is your tree real or fake?

I don't know many people here in the UK that actually get a real Christmas tree, but I'd love to get one some day! We always have a plastic tree, mostly a green one but sometimes we get a white one. As far the small tree I get for my bedroom each year, I've had silver, black, green and white! This year, it's white :)

What is your all-time favourite Christmas food/sweet treat?

Pigs-in-Blankets and German Lebkuchen, especially the kind with icing sugar and sprinkles on top *nom nom*

Be honest: do you like giving or receiving gifts better?

Well I'd be a liar if I said I didn't enjoy getting gifts, it's always so heart-warming when someone finds something that's really personal or just perfect for you! It makes me feel like they really know me well and it's a special feeling. However, I do love giving presents the most! Especially for people who don't know what they want, because I like the challenge of getting them something that they love! I mean they could pretend to love it, which my anxiety likes to bug me with around Christmas and Birthdays, but I enjoy getting things for the special people in my life nonetheless

What is the best Christmas gift you've ever received?

Oh gosh, I don't even know! I have received so many thoughtful and sweet gifts from my loved ones over the years. I think to be honest I would have to say it was my PlayStation 1 , and my PlayStation 2 a few years later, that I got when I was a kid, because they filled my life with endless fun for years and years, and helped me develop so many of my nerdy interests which made me into the person I am today :) #deepmuch

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I would love to spend Christmas in Finland, where Lapland is because Finland is beautiful all year round but oh my gosh, I bet it's magical in the snowy seasons! I'd love to go and see the Aurora Borealis (aka Northern Lights) in person whilst I'm there :) Oh, and it would be marvellous to see some of the Nordic animals in the wild! Other than Finland, I think it would be awesome to visit North America during the Holidays or Germany or Austria, especially for Krampusnacht celebrations. One day!

Are you a pro-present wrapper? Or do you fail miserably?

I am the worst! Present wrapping meets dyspraxia is a failure waiting to happen! It sucks even more than my mom and sister both wrap presents so perfectly and then I see mine side-by-side and they look like I've opened them and tried to re-seal them XD Oh well, the paper is there to get torn anyway, haha!

Most memorable Holiday moment?

I think my most memorable Christmas Day moments are those from when I was really young when the fantasy element of the holiday was still alive for me! When I was around six years old, I received a rocking horse and I still remember everything about the moment when I first set eyes on it. I had wanted one for ages so I was over the moon! I had a little bit of an obsession with the story of Black Beauty, so take a guess at what I called my new black & white rocking horse :D I can still clearly picture in my mind finding all of my present as usual in the living room, however my parents... I mean Santa... had put two special presents in the dining room. Me and my sister went in there to discover my rocking horse and one of those little peddle cars, or whatever they are called, for her. Awww, I can't stop reminiscing now!

Other than those childhood memories, one of my favourite memories from around Christmas time would be from back in 2009 when I was 17. On December 22nd, me and two of my wonderful friends hung out for the day and since it had snowed pretty heavy, we decided to explore around our hometown and enjoy the snow basically :) We found this one field that was completely untouched, and it looked gorgeous! Then we let loose and made snow angels and rolled around and threw snowballs and tried to make a snowman. I had not long gotten into photography so I took some cool photos, as well as some hilarious photos of my friends messing about in the snow. It was really fun and the memory pops into my head every Christmas time :)

When did you release the truth about Santa?

My mom told me when I was about 10 or 11 years old and I sobbed my little heart out :D I was a very trusting child, but also I liked to live in a little fantasy world of my own and I adored all things magical and mythical, and so finding out that Father Christmas wasn't real was not fun. Bless tiny me! (Pfft I say tiny like I'm not 5'2'' as an adult!)

Do you make New Year's Resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I always make New Years goals, but I rarely manage to complete them all! I've been putting a lot of pressure on myself to complete my resolutions for the last few years, especially considering I share them on my blog and I feel like I should show that I'm doing what I wanted to achieve. However it's not very great for my mental health, so although I might make goals this year, I'm not going to share them... but then again, I might not make any this time, other than to look after myself more in 2019!

What makes the Holidays special for you?

I really love the element of magic that exists around Christmas Time, and I don't mean the literal make-believe magic of Santa Claus and his Elf Workshop, but I mean the real-life magic of everywhere filled with twinkling lights and colours and shiny decorations and heart-warming movies and grottos and markets and spending time with loved ones. And even for those who don't celebrate Christmas, there's holidays for many cultures and religions in and around winter time, and everyone just enjoys the festivities of the season! I think it's such a special thing :) I also love seeing the wonder in people's eyes when they look at Christmas displays and seeing people laughing and smiling as they partake in the traditions! I'm going to stop before I get all emotional :')

Thankyou for reading! Merry Christmas Eve's Eve!

The Mystery Blogger Award

Hey lovelies! I hope you've all been having a wonderful day :) I've spent most of my day so far working on a story that I'm writing at the moment. It's a fanfic because I'm a nerd through and through, haha! Have you ever written any fanfiction? Do you like to read it? Last week, the lovely Natalee over at There Might Be Coffee tagged me to do the Mystery Blogger Award and so that's what today's post is going to be! The original creator of this awesome tag was Okoto Enigma. Thankyou very much for the tag Nat I hope you all enjoy reading my answers!

The rules of the Mystery Blogger Award are as follows...

1) Display the logo/image of the award on your blog post,

2) Share a list of the rules,

3) Thank whoever nominated you to take part in the award & link to their blog,

4) Mention the original creator of the award & link to their blog,

5) Tell the readers three things about yourself.

6) Nominate 10-20 people, and notify them by commenting on their blog,

7) Ask your nominees any five questions, with one being weird or funny (let readers know which one that is),

8) Share a link to your best posts.

Three facts about me!

My favourite books are the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I am an avid collector of so many things, but my favourite things to collect are vinyl figures/toys and at the moment I own 56 Funko Pop! Vinyl figures in my ever-growing collection!

I am a huge fan of musicals and I can be found randomly busting into song at least 80% of the time :D

Here are the questions Nat asked me...

Q1. What is one thing you are really looking forward to this year? It can be as big or small as you wish.

Since the start of the year, I most look forward to attending my local MCM Comic Con at Manchester, but that took place this weekend just gone, and I had a fabulous time! I shared a post yesterday all about what goodies I picked up there :) Other than that, my best friend & I are going to see The Rasmus in concert in October and I'm super excited!! I first heard this awesome Finnish rock band back when I was 11 years old (when their song In The Shadows was released) and it just ignited the alternative side of my personality that I was so eager to express! I loved their music a lot in my early teens and they also gave me a passion for listening to music by foreign artists. It's gonna be super nostalgic to finally see them live after all these years! Who's a fellow fan of The Rasmus? What's your favourite song by them?

Q2. Who is your oldest/best friend? I want you to tell me how you two met and a funny moment you both share.

My best friend is called Jess and she's also a fellow blogger (check out her blog here). We met at high school and became the best of friends in Year 8 when we discovered that we shared a mutual love for lots of the same musicians, particularly Matt Willis from Busted. I still vividly remember the moment that we both realised this shared love for him, back when celeb crushes and teen angst music was our entire world :D Hmmm... it's so tough to choose just one funny moment, there are so many! One of the most recent though was when we were in Frankie & Benny's enjoying a meal and I was trying to describe a song to her, and as I'm in full song, our waiter walked over to ask if we were enjoying our food/needed anything, and I basically serenaded him! So that was lovely and embarrassing!! I pretty much shouldn't be allowed out in public!

Q3. If you could be a biscuit, which biscuit would you be? (funny question!)

For an entire week now, I have constantly been pondering over which type of biscuit I most relate to, so thanks for that Nat! :p I finally came to the conclusion that I'd have to be a Smarties chocolate chip cookie! a) because I love sweet things! and b) because I am filled with an eclectic, random assortment of quirks, and I think Smarties are the best way to represent that fact. Haha, reading back my answer is reminding me how much of a dork I am XD I craving a Smarties chocolate chip cookie so much now though!

Q4. What band/artist would you like to see before you die?

I'd have to say the band Nightwish because I absolutely love their music and they have been one of my favourite bands for a long time, yet I've never had the opportunity to see them. Some of their lyrics and instrumentals just fill me with such strong emotion when I'm listening to it, so I can't imagine how it's going to make me feel in person. It would be amazing to find out!

Q5. As it is the summer holidays, what is your favourite childhood memory from your six weeks off school?

I can't actually pinpoint one specific memory from the six weeks holidays. I didn't go on any vacations with my family then because it was so expensive to book them for June/July as everyone wanted to go on holiday then, so we always went earlier in the year! All of my childhood memories of summer days off school are filled with the games that I would play with my friends on the park behind the houses on my street, and in some of the fields nearby. When the council would send someone to cut the grass on the park, afterwards we'd collect all of the lumps of freshly-cut grass left behind and make 'forts'. We'd spilt into teams and pretend we were battling to protect our fort from invasion. We'd make huge piles of the cut grass in our forts to throw at the opposing team whenever they tried to get close XD Other than that, we'd spend weeks building the perfect den, searching around for materials to use for it like wooden boards and such, and in the end our dens were usually taken over my teenagers or something after all our hard work! :O My summers were filled with a lot of bike rides, getting stuck in trees and looking for frogs and bugs :D

Ooops, I'm going to defy the rules and only tag three fabulous bloggers...

My five questions for you guys to answer...

1) Do you collect anything? If so, what?

2) If you were going to change your name, what would you change it to?

3) What was your favourite childhood cartoon, and why did you love it? (I find it a challenge to choose just one! So if you're like me, change this to Top 5).

4) Tell us the weirdest thing that you like the smell/taste/feel of (this is my weird question).

5) Name your go-to song(s) when you're feeling down and/or need a good cry.

And finally, here are my top three posts...

Thankyou for reading!

Please feel free to do this tag too if you want,
& be sure to tag me so I can check out your answers!

The Best Friend Tag

Hi guys! It's the start of a new week and officially five days until Comic Con! Yay!! Yesterday, I watched so many youtube videos of 2016's MCM Comic Con in Manchester and it's got me even more excited! It's a bit of a shame that this year I can't make a new cosplay outfit, but I love being Totoro so I'm not too bothered. I feel super cute as Totoro anyhow! What are you all looking forward to this week? For today's post I'll be sharing another tag with you all. The lovely Natalee over at There Might Be Coffee recently tagged me to do the Best Friend tag so here goes. Go check out Nat's awesome blog :) Enjoy!

The Best Friend Tag

I really like this tag! I think it's really different from other tags I've done because it's for two people to answer. My best friend is called Jessica, and we've been best friends since we were 13 years old. I'm going to represent my answers with an S and Jess' with a J. I hope you all enjoy reading our answers!

(1) How and where did you meet?
J: We met in high school, we was in year 8 before we actually spoke to each other properly after a mutual friend was off sick. We discussed Busted (very serious topic) and our friendship started from there.
S: As Jess said, we met in Year 8. She had another best friend at the time who she had gone to Primary School with, and I made friends with her best friend. We all shared lessons together back then. One day, our mutual friend didn't come to school and so we sat together awkwardly at break time. Both shy and both having never hung out without our friend before, we didn't speak for a while. So when I spotted a Busted keyring on Jess' backpack, I thought yay! Conversation topic! :D We chatted about Busted for ages and our love for Matt Willis, and our friendship blossomed from there...

(2) What's your favourite memory together?
J: Ooh... I would have to say attacking her with a fork when we was on a holiday in Yorkshire.
S: Haha! She did indeed harrass me with a random fork that she found in the grass on a cliffside. Thanks pal XD Omgosh! I can't pinpoint a favourite memory! I have so many lovely memeories with her: gig memories, school trips, hanging out with our fellow alternative friends in town when we were teenagers.... hmmm... one memory that always comes to mind whenever I think of our friendship is this one.

Nearby to Jess' house, there's a little woods known locally as 'Bluebell Woods'. I'd been there with her before but always out of season for the bluebells. One day in Spring I was over at her house and we planned to go to the woods. It was absolutely stunning when we arrived. I was in awe! We hung out in the woods for a few hours, relaxing on the grass between the bluebells and chatting. We also just chilled there and I got lost in whimsical thoughts about fairies :) It was really beautiful; there was a carpet of bluebells as far as the eye can see. To make it even better for a nature nerd like me, two pheasants showed up before we were gonna head home. It was wonderful to get to see them so close up, to look at their pretty plumage and watch their behaviour, even if it was two males fighting. I'll never forget that day

(3) Describe each other in one word

J: Geek

S: Dork

(4) What's her dream job?

J: She used to want to have a ranch in USA (is it called a ranch?) with loads of animals. She would probably like to work in a zoo with all the reptiles.

S: She's wanted to be lots of things over the last 10+ years! I'm sure that her dream job now would either a professional music/gig reviewer, or something in content writing and/or media. I still want that ranch :p just picture it with alpacas everywhere, because it's gonna happen!

(5) What's her favourite make-up brand?

J:  I don't know really... she wears Revolution eyeshadows a lot so I think she likes them haha!

S: I have no idea... I don't think she even knows :D We really need to get more make-up savvy!

(6)  What's something that annoys you about the other person?

J: I guess the lack of confidence she has, she's intelligent, a really good friend and really pretty she just needs to believe it a little more.

S: Awww :') you've made me cry girl ♥ I also wish that she had more confidence in herself; I wish she wouldn't underestimate herself as much as she does. She's gorgeous and funny and passionate about the things she believes it. She's just so bloody awesome! I couldn't ask for a better best friend.

(7) If you could go anywhere in the world together, where would it be?

J:Probably Germany, we've been somewhat learning German so it could be good to try it out. Plus there is this thing called ''M'era Luna Festival'' that be awesome to see.

S: JA! GERMANY WOULD BE AWESOME! We've always said that we'd go back to Belgium, to the town we visited when we were on our High School history trip. We want to go back to Ieper, to this cute little cafe which sold the most delicious vanilla milkshake especially :)

(8) Favourite inside joke?

J: HAHA Feet

S: (omg fu!) We have so many. Our friendship has been made up of constantly teasing one another and aiming to make each other blush (which really isn't hard, like at all) ... Shut up Jess, go listen to your favourite knife play songs!

The Best Friend Tag

(9) Who takes longer to get ready in the morning?

J: Probably me... I am usually late for things (eek!)

S: Definitely Jess

(10) Favourite Season?

J: I would say Autumn for both of us. More things to do in autumn with Halloween and bon fire night.

S: We are both Autumn babies :) Virgo & Libra, which actually is supposed to be one of the most compatible of friendships, if you believe that kind of thing.

(11) Favourite Song?

J: Jesus of Suburbia I know that's her favourite from Green Day.

S: Since we are going with a Green Day theme, her favourite Green Day song is 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'. We have A LOT of favourite songs.

(12) What is it like being best friends with someone who is obsessed with blogging?

J:  It's good she helps me out whenever I am stuck, we proof read each other's work.

S: Thanks for being my designated proof reader from the start! Jess has just recently started blogging, and it would be awesome if you guys could go check out her blog. As for my answer... I bet it's been interesting for her dealing with my constant photo taking for years, like not being able to start eating her meals at restaurants until I've taken a photo, etc :) Also, I've constantly used our facebook messenger chat to send photos from my laptop to save them onto my phone quickly (sorry!). It's nice that we can share this hobby together now.

(13) Heels or flats?

J: Flats for both, I don't think I have seen her wear heels, ever.

S: Flats. Yeah, I don't do heels. I would most likely break an ankle in about ten minutes wearing heels XD

(14) Comedy, horror, or click-flicks?

J: She loves her horrors.

S: Thanks for watching all those horrors with me over the years ♥ Hmm, she enjoys comedies but I'm going to say click-flicks and hope I'm not wrong!

(15) What is something weird that she eats?

J: I am not sure, she is quite a fussy eater like me so I can't really say I find anything weird lol.

S: Being the ridiculously fussy eater that I am, I think everything I don't eat that other people do is weird :D

(16) You guys have anything matching?

J: I know we have matching MCR and Green Day tops!

S: We used to have some of those cute best friends merch when we were teenagers but they have gotten lost over the years, oops. We both have hello kitty and a charmander build-a-bear plushies :)

The Best Friend Tag
Some oldies!
Well, that's the end of the Best Friend tag. I hope that you all enjoyed it :) Whenever I read posts about friendship, it makes me feel emotional and it's nostaglic too. When I read about other friends memories and special moments together, it makes me think back and reminisce about my own with Jess. This girl means the absolute world to me, and I don't know what I'd ever do without her :') *insert more soppy words*. I hope that whilst reading my post, you all thought about your best friend. You should totally go tell them how much they mean to you... do it!

Thankyou for reading!

I'd love to hear some cute best friend stories, let me know in the comments how you met your best friend.
