Ainsdale Sandhills Nature Reserve | Blogtober

Hi everyone! I had such an awesome time last night, celebrating mine & my best friend's Birthday, although I'm definitely feeling it today, haha! We all had a great time playing drinking games, including the Deal or No Deal boardgame that my friend has modified into a brilliant drinking game, and listening to the most fabulous playlist. I was given the loveliest presents, too (Thankyou so much guys!).

It's time for the next holiday photo diary from my recent trip to Southport. Check out my first one here. On Day Four of our holiday, my mum & I decided to have a scroll around the local nature reserve that backed into the sand dunes on the nearby Ainsdale Beach. I was super excited! I hadn't been to the Ainsdale Sandhills Nature Reserve since I was 10 years old, and I was looking forward to feeling nostalgic as I explored. I also couldn't wait to get some pretty photography :) I wanted to share some of my favourite shots of the day with you. Enjoy!

The nature reserve was such a beautiful place, a lake surrounded by woodland, bordered on one side by sand dunes leading onto the beach. The perfect habitat for so many species! It was a lovely day which just made the reserve look even more stunning, the sunlight brightening all of the flora and making the water glisten. I feel so at peace when I am in the woods, surrounded by trees. They are my favourite places in the world! I just love taking in all the sights and sounds and smells of these little forests.

Once we had walked the entire trial around the lake, we noticed that there was a wooden platform where you could get close to the waters edge and observe all of the wetland bird species. There was the prettiest swan there too! I took SO MANY DUCK PHOTOS! Just before we were ready to head back to the holiday camp, I noticed a sign by the pub at the corner of the reserve's carpark advertising that they sold bags of duck seed. I was so happy! I of course had to buy one, and I had a lot of fun feeding all of birds; there were Coots, Moorhens, Mallard Ducks and Tufted Ducks, as well as one random white species of duck and lots of pigeons and seagulls. It was lovely having all of the ducks around me and a great opportunity for taking photos. I didn't want to leave, haha!

Thankyou for reading!

Tell me all about the last Nature Reserve that you visited. What wildlife did you see there?
Also, who else loves ducks?

  1. Aw, what a special spot! I love revisiting places from my childhood, it's always such a nice feeling. And duckies! Ducks are so nice, and I do love seagulls, too ;) I don't think I've ever been to a nature reserve... Maybe? Haha, I'm not sure, but it would be great to visit one soon :) Especially if there are ducks!
