My recent time away in Wales and writing all about my adventures there has really got me thinking about travelling. I'd love to be able to travel more, to see the world! There are so many places that I would love to visit, cultures I'd like to experience and heritage sites I dream of being able to see in person. Living with both mental & physical illness makes travelling difficult, it means I can't jet away for the weekend like other young people, partying the holiday away, staying in cheap hostels and hotels. It requires more planning and money, but I won't let it stop me from going to all the countries that I dream of visiting. For today's post, I thought I'd talk to you all about my top six dream holiday destinations. I love reading posts like this on other blogs & I hope you all enjoying reading my post!
Japan
I have dreamed of going to Japan for as long as I can remember. From my early teens, I have been a little obsessed with Japanese culture, especially kawaii, harajuku and lolita fashion and the animes that I grew up watching. All of them made me inspired to visit such an awesome, beautiful country, to see the shrines and traditional houses, to go to all of the fantastic places that I have discovered in books and online. I started writing to my first penpal when I was 14 years old; she was from Japan and she sent me the most wonderful letters and tourist information leaflets all about her country. By talking to her, I added so many places to my Japanese travel wishlist, such as Tokyo Disneyland. I would love to go to a traditional spa/bath house and stay in an old fashioned Japanese house with mats on the floors and sliding paper doors.
I want to go to a cherry blossom festival and gaze upon the stunning pink flowers. I want to see Mount Fuji, all of the wildlife in the national parks surrounding it, and I would love to go to a forest there. It would remind me of all of my favourite Studio Ghibli movies, especially if I happen to stumble on a shrine dedicated to the spirits of the forest. Speaking of Studio Ghibli, I would love to visit the Ghibli museum. I want to go shopping in Tokyo, to see the rainbow bridge, the Shinto temples and to visit Harajuku. I dream of going to the Zao fox village and getting a boat to Okunoshima aka Rabbit Island. Oh, and lets not forget the Pokemon Centre and Kyoto! I could keep on listing more places in the Japan I want to go for ages...
Madagascar
Oh my gosh, I want to go to Madagascar so much! I have been in love with this gorgeous country since I first saw David Attenborough exploring it's forests in search of incredible, unique species. I was about nine years old when I first watched a documentary featuring a species of lemur called a Sifaka and I thought it was one of the most fascinating creatures I had ever seen, seeing it hop along the rainforest floor to get from tree to tree. They are so cute; I love their distinctive colouration. As well as being an island full of amazing mammals, such as the Aye-Aye, Madagascar is also filled with some of the coolest reptiles ever! I am a massive fan of reptiles and to be able to see species like leaf-tailed geckos and chameleons in their natural habitat would be a dream come true for me. Whilst in Madagascar, I would of course love to explore the rainforests and national parks, but also wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres and do some volunteering. I'd love to visit the island of Nosy Be, the limestone formations and go to see the iconic Baobab trees.
North America
Who doesn't want to go to North America? It's a country with so many interesting places to visit. I have kept hold of my childhood dream of visiting Disneyland all these years so it would be an amazing experience to finally get to go. I don't care what age I am, I will be buying mickey mouse ears to wear and getting a hug and a photo with my favourite Disney characters! I would love to explore Florida, to go to the Everglades National Park to see the alligators and other gorgeous wildlife. I would like to visit New York, the Grand Canyon, and to some of the most well-known zoos. I think it would be awesome to go exploring down Route 66 and to see the desert. I would be over the moon if I got to see Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park. Basically, I'd need to go on a road trip of the US to see all of the places I'd like. Wouldn't that be amazing though!?
Indonesia
Being the animal lover I am, Indonesia is obviously a country I would love to visit. Sumatra and Borneo are in Indonesia and have some of the rarest, most gorgeous wild animals in the world dwelling there. I would love to see the rainforests of Indonesia, go to an Orangutan or Elephant rescue centre, to visit the beautiful ruins and historical sites. Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest is at the top of my Indonesian historical wishlist because it reminds me of some of the scenes in Disney's Jungle Book. I love the statues of different animals there and the ones of the Hindu God Hanuman. The main reason that I want to visit Indonesia is to go to Komodo Island! Komodo Dragons are my favourite animals and to be able to go to Komodo Island would be a dream come true :) Whats your favourite animal?
Australia
I have been fascinated with Australia since I was around five years old. I used to have this huge red wildlife book that was filled with the loveliest illustrations of animals from all over the world and I would re-read the Australian section over and over again. I was like a little walking factfile of animal knowledge and I would just go around telling everyone I could some random information about animals, especially Australian ones. I would love to travel Australia, visiting all of the areas where I can see the ironic animals in the wild; my favourite marsupial species are quolls, platypus and echidna so it would be fabulous to see them. It would be great to see ALL OF THE REPTILES too! The tourist spots I most want to go to are Sydney, Byron Bay, The Great Barrier Reef and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. I want to hug a koala! Ooo, and I want to go diving in a shark cage (even though I can't swim). I am so jealous of my brother, as he went travelling in Australia for 3 months last year!
Finland
Finland is another country I have wanted to go to since my early teens. One of my penpals is from Finland and we have been writing to one another for so many years now! She has painted a wonderful picture of Finland, of gorgeous forests and lakes, and I would just love to see it for myself. When I first started getting into alternative music, some of my bands I listened to a lot were The Rasmus, HIM and Hanoi Rocks, all of which hail from Finland, so this just made me want to go there even more. My teenage dreams of finding the hottest Finnish goth boyfriend were strong! (maybe they still are ;) haha). Helsinki sounds like such a cool city so that's where I'm set on visiting first! I'm definitely heading for Moomin World when I go to Finland. The Moomins was one of my favourite childhood shows and I would love to buy a plushie of Moomin and lots of Snufkin goodies. Snufkin is my favourite character. I love The Moomins so much that one of my bunnies is called Moomin.
I hope that you all enjoyed reading about the top six countries on my travel wishlist, and about why I would love to visit them. Writing this post has just made me more passionate about getting to see these incredible countries some day. Expect to see some future travel posts :)
